Bits and Pieces of What Makes a Home Your Own

Two weeks after the movers delivered our stuff from Dallas, our little place is slowly coming together. While I still have yet to put up frames, find (or make) table covers, and purchase more small yet cute storage containers; I'm happy to say that I have conquered the countless boxes that came.

Here are a few of my favorite little things in our home that make it personal and functional.

Wrought iron chair as a book holder

I don't have a TV but I do have my books!

Candle holders add a hint of fall...

My Mona Lisa
My bed...

Our dining table (table cover from Anthropologie) with the fruit bowl (bought at a store in Willow Glen) and silverware (from Target as handpicked by the little guy)
Hope you are having a wonderful new week!

Our Little Apartment - The Before

So I finally got a call from the moving company letting me know that my stuff will be here tomorrow afternoon. YIPPPEEE!! For the past two weeks, my son and I have been eating over at my sister's house (lunch and dinner) and have been sleeping on an airbed; so I'm sure you can all imagine how excited we both are to finally have a bed to sleep on, a couch to sit on and a table to dine on.

I am itching to decorate my "little apartment" (as my son calls it). But I do face some challenges - how to make the apartment functional and how to make the larger pieces of furniture to work in a small space (less than 700 sq. ft).

Here's the challenge:

1) Living Room - While the color adds warmth to the space and the layout is open enough, I have large pieces of furniture that I'm bringing from my old house in Texas. I could easily buy a more streamlined, compact items; but I don't want to spend money on furniture.

2) Kitchen and Nook - Liking the glass on the cabinets and can't wait to put the colorful plates, pots and pans.

3) Bedroom - My one-dimensional bedroom.

Wish me luck! Will post pics of the place soon.

Charming Wedding in Gorgeous Seattle

I was in Seattle with the little boy for my cousin's wedding. We were armed with sweaters and pants for the trip, but lo and behold - it was 82 degrees when we arrived at 11pm..crazy! This almost never happens in Seattle. Coming from Dallas, I was hoping to have the gloomy, grey day that Seattle is known for; instead, we were greeted with warm, balmy weather. Oh well!

THE WEDDING

The whole affair was quite charming - a quick ceremony followed by a reception at the Montecristo Hotel. The venue was quaint with some interesting architectural details. We had fun and we wish the couple all the best. Cheers!

Chaotic September

I can't believe summer is about to be officially over. Where did the time go? I have been extremely busy with packing and organizing and basically, just getting everything ready for my move to California next week. In addition to the move, I have just started a new business venture with my sister - Via Rue Travels (a fashion and lifestyle travel company). Hectic and stressful is an understatement, indeed, but I am loving every minute of it.

I will miss my house, especially my kitchen! My son and I will be moving to a 700 sq ft apartment which is a sixth of our house now. It will be interesting to see how we will manage. I will definitely share our adventures as mom and son in the Bay Area. Do you have any tips and tricks in downsizing?
